For children from 4 - 7 I read my picture books and lots of funny poems. For the older kids I explain how long it takes to write a book, whether it's easier to write 108,000 words for adults or 150 words for a picture book story, where ideas come from, how I started writing, whether I was any good at English at school (no), how I actually work and loads of other stuff. It's always a good fun, highly inter-active session. For children from 8 - 15 my talks can include all the above plus more educational content (including how to re-draft and research). I can explain how a book is made from idea to finished product and show dummy books, picture proofs, and manuscript drafts - complete with publisher’s critical comments - to illustrate exactly how much work is involved. This type of session is also highly interactive and fun, and opens kid's eyes to the world of publishing. For adults (especially writing groups) I explain how to get published in the following markets; children's books, picture books and adult non-fiction. I cover the markets in detail, how to submit manuscripts, how to get an agent (and whether you need one), how to get started and what to write about. It's fun and highly informative. All my talks are highly interactive, enjoyable and informal. The audience can be any size - from a small group to an entire school.
