02/03/2017 @ 19:18:00

World Book Day is a charity event that takes place in the UK and Ireland on the first Thursday in March every year with the aim of celebrating books and reading. Schools often invite authors to come along for a visit and children (and even teachers) dress up as their favourite book character. By the end of the day every single child in full-time education will receive a voucher for a free book.

The selected World Book Day books for 2017 are:

1. Peppa Loves World Book Day by Neville Astley

2. Everyone Loves Underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

3. Where’s Wally? The Fantastic Journey by Martin Handford

4. Princess Mirror-Belle and Snow White by Julia Donaldson & Lydia Monks

5. Horrid Henry: Funny Fact Files by Francesca Simon

6. Blob by David Walliams

7. Good Old Timmy and Other Stories by Enid Blyton

8. Butterfly Beach by Jacqueline Wilson

9. Island by David Almond

10. Dead of Night: A Front Line Story by Michael Grant

11. Fast Forward by Judi Curtain (Ireland only)

The £1 voucher can also be put towards a full priced book or audio CD. World Book Day Ltd, the charity behind the event, is sponsored by National Book Tokens Ltd, publishers and booksellers. This year they hope to give away a record one million books.

Local bookshops, WHSmith, Waterstones and many supermarkets are participating in the scheme however vouchers can only be redeemed up until Sunday 26th March 2017 so don’t delay! To find your local World Book Day book stockist simply search the booksellers association here.
